On Wednesday, Nov. 13, Kennesaw PRSSA had the amazing opportunity to get hands-on with crisis communication in the workforce. Asher Morris, Deputy Officer of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Emergency Preparedness, joined us to walk us through a recent real-life crisis in Atlanta. His experience in the field showed how the power of strategy and trustful communication amidst a crisis is essential.  During the workshop, Morris provided students with a timeline of events from a water crisis that occurred in Atlanta earlier this year. We then developed and assessed a crisis communication plan in retrospect, resulting in much valuable insight.  Crisis communication is a skill many public relations professionals must develop to be prepared for the unknown. On Nov. 12, several Kennesaw PRSSA members had the amazing opportunity to tour the national headquarters of the Boys and Girls Club of America. On this visit, our members were able to learn more about BGCA and hear from multiple guest speakers on a multitude of topics. This visit was not only informative for our members, but empowering and inspirational to hear how much each guest speaker cares for the initiatives set forth at the BGCA.  The tour was led by former KSU PRSSA President, Christian Gehrke, who now works at the BGCA and spoke to our members about the BGCA and its mission. On October 17th, multiple Kennesaw PRSSA e-board members were given the exciting opportunity to visit and tour the Weber Shandwick Atlanta offices! Weber Shandwick is a communications and marketing agency that works in sectors such as food and beverage, health, and government and public, just to name a few. Its offices spread across 59 cities, with networks extending to 113 cities. In addition, Weber Shandwick has worked with many high-profile clients and brands, including Pop-Tarts, TRESemmé, eBay, and many more.
