Kennesaw PRSSA Celebrates 20th Anniversary at Spring Kickoff Meeting!
KSU PRSSA had its Spring Kickoff this past Wednesday night and launched itself into a new semester with a ‘Roaring Twenties’ theme! This theme was special not only for the first PRSSA meeting of the new year but also because KSU PRSSA is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year! In honor of this, we had the delight of hearing from some of our founding professional advisors, Barbara Gainey and Karla Harvill. Attendees also had the pleasure of hearing from Gregory Paul, the Associate Dean of Faculty and Inclusive Excellence of the Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Our speakers shared with students how to get the most out of PRSSA, why it is important to get involved in the chapter, as well as some fun differences from Kennesaw PRSSA in 2015 to 2025.
Karla Harvill was one of the founding members of KSU PRSSA and is still involved and dedicated to the chapter today. To show just how much the chapter has evolved in its 20-year history, Karla shared some interesting facts with us. She used societal examples stating that in 2005, the television show “Grey’s Anatomy” had just begun airing, compared to now in 2025, it is in its 21st season! Barbara Gainey and Gregory Paul emphasized how important the PRSSA chapter can be not only for your career after graduation, but for creating life-long connections with fellow classmates while also earning hands-on experience in the PR world.
As the meeting came to a close, Karla and Barbara shared some parting words of advice with our students. Karla emphasized the importance of “developing the technique of good writing to
deliver clear messages,” as well as building a network with classmates and professionals. Barbara encouraged students to “stay engaged” with their work and the PRSSA chapter itself and to take advantage of opportunities both throughout the college experience and in PRSSA whether it be attending chapter meetings, going on an agency tour, or getting involved with the e-board. Our Spring Kickoff meeting was a perfect way to begin our semester-long 20th anniversary celebration!
