September 28, 2022

From a PR agency to the circus, the aquarium or TV screens across the nation, entertainment PR can take you anywhere. A large portion of PR professionals in the entertainment industry did not start working in that specific industry.

Entertainment PR is a multifaceted field where you can meet great people and create great events. For some this field of PR comes after a long process of elimination where other PR pathways didn’t work out for them based on their passions, goals and skills.

Some areas that entertainment PR covers include movie premieres, events, social media, internal and external communication, sporting events, storytelling and television work.

Ever wondered what to expect from working in entertainment PR? Here are three things you may not know play a major role in the field:

First, it’s important to understand that there’s no formula for a day in the life of an entertainment PR professional. Each day is unpredictable and none is identical. A Monday may entail working with the media and finding press clips. A Tuesday afternoon may have you working with interns and executives. On a Wednesday morning, you may have to manage and crisis and work in project management. A Thursday may require building an editorial calendar and posting to social media. Finally, a Friday afternoon may require executing an event plan. As you can tell, no day is the same.

Second, you must take advantage and note the courses you take in your undergraduate program. A large part of the day-to-day of an entertainment PR professional requires that you reference skills and lessons you learned in college. SWOT analysis, managing a research team, public speaking, marketing and writing are just a few of the skills you will have to use.

Third, remember that relationships are key. You must be able to connect with any PR professional. Having connections may save you a headache in a year, or ten! Attend conferences, collect business cards, use LinkedIn and be willing to cultivate these connections.

Overall, entertainment PR is a broad field that keeps you on the edge of your seat. By remembering these three areas, you’ll be more equipped to tackle the field of entertainment PR>
